Why you need to be using your Ceiling Fan Year Round!

Now that the summer's over it's time to turn your ceiling fan off, right?  Wrong!

Using the Ceiling Fan Year Round

According to EnergyStar.gov,

In the summer, you use your ceiling fan, set in the counterclockwise direction, to cool off. According to EnergyStar.gov, while sitting or standing under the ceiling fan you should feel a cool breeze. The airflow created by the fan produces a wind-chill effect, making you "feel" cooler.

But that doesn't mean that your ceiling fan needs to be put away or turned off in the winter time.

In the winter, Engergystar.gov recommends, is the time to reverse the motor and operate the ceiling fan at low speed in a clockwise direction. The reverse motion produces a soft updraft, forcing warm air, which rises toward the ceiling, down into the occupied space. If you remember to adjust your thermostat when using your ceiling fan you could save on the costs associated with heating your home!
